Ahmed's Policy Positions:

Human Rights and Australia's Role in a Just World

Australia’s foreign policy must reflect the values we claim to uphold—freedom, justice, dignity, and equality. In a world increasingly shaped by conflict, displacement, and authoritarianism, we cannot afford silence or complicity. As a nation, we must stand with the oppressed, speak out against injustice, and take real action to uphold human rights—at home and abroad.

As your representative, I will fight for a foreign policy grounded in humanity, international law, and solidarity with those who are too often ignored by global power structures.

Ahmed’s Plan for change

Lead with Values: Human Rights First

Australia must take an unambiguous stance in defence of human rights, international law, and democratic freedoms. This means:

  • Speaking out against military occupation, apartheid, and systemic oppression—including in places where it may be politically inconvenient to do so.
  • Supporting freedom movements and civil society actors in regions like Palestine, Sudan, West Papua, and beyond.
  • Providing aid and refuge to displaced communities fleeing violence and repression.

Strengthen Australia’s Role at the United Nations

Ahmed will push for a revitalised role for Australia within the UN system—where we help lead efforts to:

  • Investigate and prevent mass atrocities and war crimes.
  • Advocate for international accountability mechanisms (e.g. ICC referrals, sanctions).
  • Support humanitarian responses that are community-led and grounded in justice.
  • Defend the integrity and independence of UN agencies from political pressure.

A seat at the table is not enough. We must use our voice boldly.

Reject Hypocrisy. Demand Accountability.

Australia cannot pick and choose which human rights to defend based on politics or trade. Ahmed will call for:

  • Consistent foreign policy principles that oppose all forms of occupation, apartheid, and aggression.
  • Ending military cooperation with regimes engaged in human rights abuses.
  • Transparent reporting on Australia's arms exports and foreign aid programs.
  • Support for global sanctions on violators of international law—not exemptions for political allies.

Support Refugees and Displaced Peoples

Ahmed will push for:

  • Expanding Australia's humanitarian intake, especially from conflict zones we have moral or strategic responsibility for.
  • Ending offshore detention and pursuing alternatives that uphold dignity and human rights.
  • Funding community-based settlement services that help refugees rebuild their lives with respect and autonomy.

Build International Solidarity from the Grassroots

Ahmed believes diplomacy doesn’t just happen in government—it happens in communities, parliaments, and through people-to-people links. He will support:

  • Direct partnerships between Australian communities and those abroad suffering under occupation or repression.
  • Support for diaspora advocacy groups who amplify global justice movements.
  • Education programs that connect local struggles for justice with international ones—because our liberation is shared.

Let’s work together

Australia can be a beacon of hope and justice in global affairs. By advocating for a foreign policy rooted in the values of freedom, justice, and equality, we can make a profound impact on the international stage. Together with Ahmed, we can ensure that Australia not only plays a pivotal role in defending human rights but also leads by example in creating a fairer and more just global community for all.

Let’s work together to shape a foreign policy that reflects our ideals and upholds the dignity of every person, everywhere.
